Use electricity to break the molecules apart. One electrode will produce hydrogen and one oxygen. Use an acid, like sulfuric acid to increase the conductivity of the water for better effect.

Water can be spkit into hydrogen and water by passing an electical current through it. The anode with collect hydogen while the cathode collects oxygen. And since water is not a good conductor of electricity, usually a salt, such as common table salt is added to the water to make the process proceed easier. However, this generation if noy done properly may very well be the last one ever done by the casual experimenter. The hydrogen and oxygen really love each other and want to re-combine. Very violently they will re-combine if allowed to mix and then an ignition source is near.
