There is indeed only going to be 400,000 units for launch in the North America. In Japan, they're launching with 100,000 units and Europe has been pushed back to March 2007. This is because they cannot produce enough blue-ray diodes for the units. No longer are there 2,000,000 units for launch but rather the number has dropped to 500,000 units total.
The Wii will launch with 1,000,000 in the US alone, so when you get to the store and they're sold out of PS3's, Wii isn't such a bad idea to think about.
Also, you have to remember buying a PS3 will most likely cost $600 dollars no tax plus the cost of a game(s) unless you are planning on getting the lesser edition with no games to play which will then be $500. However, the Wii is $250 and will come with a game compliation included (Wii Sports which has baseball, golf, tennis, bowling, and boxing.... all of which work very well).

Yes, it's true. I just read an article about it on yahoo.com. The next availability after that is March. It's been like this since the playstation came out. They did the same strategy for the first and second playstation to build the hype. The more people salivate and obsessed over it because they don't have it, the more it will make buy it when it becomes available in mass numbers.

The theme only enters you for a chance to get into the Beta. It does not guarantee you getting in, and downloading the theme doesn't automatically give you Home. They'll be letting people in at the end of the month. The open Beta should be along a couple of months after this, so you should be able to get in then if you didn't make the cut this time.

That is correct, we are only receiving 400,000 units in the United States. So far, that's all we are getting until the end of the year.
Also, the games in Japan have been confirmed to be priced from 75$ - 80$. That'll end up in the states to be around 70$-75$.

Possibly. I've learned that it cost more money to produce the system than they make selling it. They (Sony/Playstation) lose about $300 for each system sold because it costs twice as much to make it. Yeah I know it stinks.

Not sure if tis true anymore because sony delayed the PS3 launch in Europe until March 2007 because of shortages for the US and Japan Launch.
