Hello. I am working on building a computer and I am having issues on the power supply.

I have a ati radeon x1900 XTX and it says it requires a 500 watt power supply.
I also have intel 2 duo core e6400 and 2 gb of ram.

Heres the question. My case is 500 watt but I didn't buy a seperate power supply. Since the requirement is 500 watts, and i have alot of fancy sheet along with the video card, should I buy another power supply seperately? And if I were to buy another power supply would it replace the power supply in the case?

My guess is I should buy a 750 watt power supply seperately and that it would replace the case power supply, but please tell me if i'm wrong.

Thanks :D

Well when they say a minimum of 500 watts, they are taking into account you having a lot of other stuff, so frankly I think you will be able to get by with your current supply. You can only put one power supply in a case at a time, so if you do upgrade you will have to replace, not add on. However they are making power supplies just for graphics cards now, take a look:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153037

I would suggest try it to see if it works. If it does then go with it. Otherwise upgrade to a 550 or 600watt power supply....750 will be enough but that is probably alot more money spent than needed.
Two separate power supplies wont work my friend.

I wouldn't use the power supply that came with the case. You can get a good name brand unit for $100.00. I would get one that has Active PFC (Power Factor Correction). Something like this would be good.

750 watts is more than enough. If its an ATX case you need a ATX power supply, the most common type.

power supplies can be replaced...so yes you can buy another one and replace the one your case came with
(you can't have 2 power supplies in one case)
i wouldn't say 750w, but if that's what you want, then get it
