It all just depends...if he is the only one that pits or not, if it is under green or caution. If it is under green and he is the only one that pits, depending on the track, he will more than likely go a lap down. If everyone needs to pit, it should equal out as long as everyone else gets their service complete and the caution doesn't come out before everyone else has pitted. Pitstops can be kind of confusing and hard to understand once and awhile but sooner or later they do make sense.

Where he will end up all depends on if the rest of the field also has to pit.Towards the end of the race, things get pretty chancy. Some guys manage fuel better then others and may not have to stop for fuel.Last week was a perfect example of somebody taking a chance and failing.Matt Kenseth lost the lead in the final laps, then ran out of fuel.He finished as the last car on the lead lap.Lucky for him that there were only about 10 cars on the lead lap.

Everyone has to pit eventually in longer races, or they'll blow a tire or run out of gas. Keeping that in mind, you need to know when is the best time to pit to put yourself in the best position to win. The cars get slower as the tires wear out, so you'll normally want to pit sooner than later if you're losing time on the track.

the reason some cars lose spots on pit road is that it all depends on variables
mistakes can lose spots, both by driver and pit crew
if it is a green flag stop, tehy will be passed by drivers who are still on the track
if other crews are just amazingly fast and efficient, like matt kenseths and the likes of them, they will gain positions for there driver
hope this cleared up any confusion

It all depends on how fast his pit crew changes his tires and fuels him up, also some drivers will take only 2 tires, making it a faster stop. . .get it now? Hope I helped!

If #22 is just taking fuel, he has to watch his pitroad speed and maybe other drivers will have a better pitstop then #22

YES 1 SECOND IN THE PITS IS WORTH 300 FT ON THE TRACK IF YOUR PIT CREW IS FASTER YOU CAN GAIN POSITIONS QUICKLY. AND IT DEPENDS HOW FUEL YOU NEED AND HOW LONG IT TAKES TO PUT IT IN
