Many of them that I'd consider major.

Aug '62 Marilyn Monroe's untimely death at just 36.

In Nov '63, President John F Kennedy being assassinated in
Dallas as the world watched.

April '68 we saw Martin Luther King Jr. gunned down in Memphis.

In June '68 Robert F Kennedy being assassinated in LA.

In '69, Apollo 11 landing on the moon and Neil Armstrong taking a
stroll.

"Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow. ...
On 8th Aug '74, Nixon being forced to resign over Watergate.

In '80 John Lennon's demise at the hand of a madman in NY.

In April '86 the disaster at Chernobyl.

Princess Diana's sad death in '97.

Then of course there was the "Vietnam War", the "Bay
of Pigs" ('61), "Gulf War" ('91), "War on Iraq".

More recently I've been around for the proliferation of the internet and the mobile phone.

I'm sure I've missed many, but for me the most momentous will always be a day in September 2001.

I have been around to see several events unfold in history. Here are the ones I consider the worst.
Vietnam--Where I lost someone very dear to me, as well as loosing 2-4 million people altogether in this war.(Conflict.)
The 1st bombing of the World Trade Center on Feb./26./1993.
Tenneman Square Massacre in China on the night of June./03/89 & contuning on the morning of June./04./1989.Watching the soldiers shoot at the crowd of protesters in Tenneman Square & killing many & seeing one lone protester {A young man} stand in front of a tank asking why they were being killed,as they were only trying to improve there countries economic & social status for the better. That image has stayed with me ever since I seen it on the t.v. It is an event in history that I hope never has to be repeated by any country no matter what the political climate of a country is. He was pulled away from the tank & saved that day from certain death, but reports came out that he was killed 14 days later, but this report has never been proven to any satisfaction by anyone, as some still say he's alive & hiding out somewhere unknown. I guess we'll never know unless he surfaces one day to prove his existance, or someone proves without a doubt that he was assinated 14 days after the massacre.{Let's hope he's still alive--RIGHT.?}
The second bombing of The World Trade Centre on Sept./11./2001 where we lost many Fireman & Policeman who risked their lives to rescue others. Lets never forget their sacrifices & pray for their families, as well as all the civilians who also lost their lives in this tradegy.
Waco{April./19./ 1993}--A blunder that the FBI will always be remembered by for their inepness in this tradegy.
Ruby Ridge{Aug./26./1992} FBI agents were there to arrest R.Weaver & a gun battle started which killed Randy's wife Vicki who was holding her 10 month old baby.

The Biggest one that I was actually a part of was "Hands Across America" which attempted to have a link across the country of people holding hands to combat world hunger.

But I've lived through (based on TV and News)
JFK's Assassination (my first memory was JFK's funeral on TV)
I also saw on TV the first man walking on the moon
Woodstock
Democrats for Nixon
Watergate
The end of the Vietnam War
Nixon's Impeachment
The U.S. Bicentennial Celebration
The boycott of the Moscow Olympics (1980)
The Hostages in Iran (1980)
John Lennon's Assassination
Iran Contra Affair
The attempted assassinations on Presidents Ford and Reagan

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of Communism
A president attempted to be removed from office for lying about a Blue Dress and A Cigar while his successor still remains in office with far less approval ratings.
The first Iran War and the New War on Terror
Waco

And of course, 9-1-1

JFK assassination, man on the moon, Vietnam war, MLK assassination, Bobby Kennedy assassination, Woodstock, Disco demolition, John Lennon murder, space shuttle disaster, 9-11. Oh yeah, and a really stupid election where a complete moron gets elected to the most powerful office in the most powerful country in the world.

A couple stand in my mind, the Cuban missile crisis, scared me to death in the third grade. John Kennedy being killed, Robert Kennedy being killed, both took a chunk out of my heart. The end of the Viet Nam war, happiest day of my life. John Lennon being killed, the heart of the world died. My son being born, my son being killed in Afghanistan, nuff said.
