that's a reasonable price for a used transmission. If you do buy the used one, replace the filter and fluid, and install new seals on both ends. Seals tend to dry rot when they have sat in a junkyard for an extended amount of time and it will save you the cost of repulling the trans when they start leaking. They aren't that expensive, usually around $10 each. Some junkyards, if they give a warranty on the used trans, will require you to install a filter and seals or void the warranty. If they tell you that you have a warranty on the unit make them write out the terms on your receipt if it isn't preprinted. Also ask them to tell you how many miles on the used trans. they should know this info.
If you don't have major internal parts failure on your transmission I usually advise just a rebuild on your own unit, then you know what you have and how it's been treated in the past.
Used transmissions have been known to last for a year or less and most junkyards will only give a 30 day warranty. Then you're right back at square one. Good luck.

That is a very fair price for a used transmission. Want to make yourself feel better about it? Call your local dealer and price a new one! A new transmission for your Blazer is about $1841.00 bucks! I would take the 550 in a heartbeat. I just installed a used transmission in a 98 V6 Ford Contour that was 1900.00 dollars used. The new one was over $2600.00 dollars. Take a deal when you see one.

In different market, you will get different prices. In my opinion this seems like a fair price. Make sure you get a receipt and have the warranty info written down on it with the sellers signature. Most salvage yards usually offer a 30 day warranty. Good Luck!!

I would say yes. We just priced one for a Ford Ranger and they wanted $550 for it out of the junk yard.
If we have ours rebuilt and let them(the tranny shop) put it back in it will cost us about $950.
The last truck we needed a tranny for we had it rebuilt and had them pull it and put it back in. The extra money that it cost was worth not having the headache doing it ourselves.

look at it this way . if you need the trans and you cant get a better price anywhere else then go for it.$ 550 is not bad.
