Ulsted Scott.....we have purchased an antique roll top desk built in the 1800's and believe it may have been built by Ulsted Scott. Does anyone know if there is a way we can find out? There are no distinguishing marks, or signatures on it.

In 1850, Abner Cutler received a patent for his "S" curve roll-top desk. Presumably such desks before then were arch curved. You might research the names Elsted, Allsted, etc. Also, since Cutler was a furniture maker in Buffalo, NY, you might check to see if there were ever any cabinet makers (who made desks) in Ulster County, New York.
