He grew up middle class in Farmer's Branch, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. But he claims he grew up in the ghettos and got stabbed in the a**, and seems to prefer to spend his time in Miami these days. Those early stories about being stabbed, being in gangs, etc., proved false, though.
