Some sort of racism is obviously essential. In order to commit genocide, you have to believe that the other lot are subhuman and not worthy of space on the planet, at least not your part of the planet. Deep resentment reinforced by racial prejudice seems to be a normal precursor of genocide. Hitler whipped up anti-Jewish sentiment that had been lurking in central Europe for centuries, the Jews were perceived as mean, successful, grasping and an exclusive club. Similarly there was resentment by Turks against Armenians before that genocide, a belief that Armenians did too damned well, (actually it was because they were enterprising, like Jews), kept an unfair advantage, and were inferior anyway because they were infidels (Christian, not Muslim). There is usually a long history of rivalry between two self-defined, neighboring, and more-or-less mutually exclusive groups before a genocide occurs. In India, the Muslim minority had power under the Mughal Emperors and that fueled the hatred that led to the inter-communal genocide between Hindus and Muslims after Partition in 1947.
Hatred is obviously essential. Emotionally, genocide is much the same thing as gang warfare in the slums of a US or European city, its only the scale of the gangs and the number of victims that is different.

In and of itself, ethnocentrism does not cause genocide.
Think about it this way: Each of us is born and raised in a certain culture. Naturally, we're going to believe that our culture is best, the definition of ethnocentrism. Yet, we don't go around killing everyone who is not a member of our culture.
At the same time, extreme ethnocentrism (like the belief that the "Ayrian" race was superior to all other "races") can lead to the conditions that result in genocide.
Genetic research should have put an end to this ten years or more ago. Peel away the skin, and we're all the same. There is, at the genetic level, really only one race -- human. Yet, we have Tutsis killing their age-old enemies, the Hutus, in central Africa, Serbs killing Croats and Muslims in the former Yugoslavia, and a world conflict between Moslims (Muslims) and infidels.
Maybe you or someone of your generation will come up with a solution to these stupid, wasteful, and amoral acts.

problem: only Nos. 3 & 5 are everywhere close to ascertainable. Nos. 2 & 4 are gross exaggerations, the figures pulled out of thin air, or someone's butt. Yours? No.a million flies spitefully contained in the face of settled reality. no doubt. Turkey is a member--alongside the Nazis--of the genocide club. the sturdy element at the same time as the Nazis by no skill were given the prospect, Turkey has no longer done something notorious for the reason that. it really is moral progression.
