You can't really enjoy a win unless you understand what it is like to lose. Winning is sweeter when you know the feeling of losing.

You have to learn lifes experiences thru the bad things u go thru. If you never lose or your heart is never broken you dont learn about true love, or true emotion. You have to take the good with the bad in order to learn and experience things. Being an aweful winner is even worse than a bad loser!

I think it was a sappy attempt to say something deep and, in fact, doesn't make very good sense. As far as I can see, it has nothing to do with sportsmanship or anything else. Do you mean to say, if I tossed a coin & said "call it," and you said "Heads" and it came down heads, do you mean tell me that you wouldn't have won? Well you wouldn't, according to that quotation. But of course you would have won, in reality --no matter whether you knew how to lose or not. That quotation is the purest baloney, and it doesn't matter who said it.

You can't really enjoy winning until you lose. If you never lose then most likely you will be a snob when you win, but if you lose before you win then you have the feeling of lsoing before you actually win. so therefore you will have a good attitude when winning.

I do not know if that is a truism, but you can't win with grace unless you learn how to lose.

It means you have to learn how to take defeat before you can play the game for real. Did you ever hear "win if you can , cheat if you must but if you get caught smile"?

In a strategic game, perhaps once you learn how to lose, you can then learn how to win?
Then you know what not to do!

You can't appreciate winning without learning how to be a good loser. It's the definition of sportsmanship.
