I think part of your quesiton got cut off.

Do you know the Name of the newspaper it was in? Was it weekly or daily?
You can go to the library and look on microfilm or micofiche. But you will have a year or sports sections to look at.

Or, I believe, some papers will do research for a fee and look in their archives. They may let you look in them, which are use huge volumes of books. But at least you have it down to a particular year.

Contact the paper it was printed in on their website and go to sports - history or archives. If that is not an option then most papers have a help site and ask your question. If you know whom the article was written by you can see if that person has their own site on the web or a site through the paper itself. If the paper is not on-line you can go to your local library and ask for their paper archives or go directly to the paper's main office. If it is no longer being published and was a local/town paper your best bet would be the library if that is possible. Good luck and please inform me if you get it cuz I'm curious.
