i have a 18 gl tank, and i had 5 fishes before i went on vacations, after i came there were only 3, one guppy and one of those fishes that clean the walls of the aquarium simply disappeared, i dont have many ornaments, and they were all about the same size...

ive looked everywhere, i can't find them, i can't believe they were eaten because they were all the same size, could they have been decomposed in 2 weaks?

dead fish generally decompose within 2 to 3 days. Other fishes would definitely feed on the dead fishes, especially if you were on vacation for TWO weeks (and anybody fed them??).

if the fish die, the other fish will all take a bite.

something else that may have happened is that your fish jumped out of the aquarium. sometimes fish do that---i have no idea why.

last year i came in the living room to find an Oscar i had had for years dead on the floor in front of the aquarium. for some reason she felt the need to jump out of the aquarium during the night when no one was there to put her back in.

another time i had a loach jump out of the aquarium and he dried up like an earthworm does on the sidewalk. when i finally found him he was flat and not very loach like.

I had this happen in my community tank a few years ago. The sucker fish will eat dead fishes in the tank. The bones are in the gravel dispursed in the tank. Time for some CSI work my man!

I think I saw them with the Gnome from the travelocity commercials down at the Atlantis resort. They were having martini's with some locals and then someone suggested they go swim with the dolphins.....oh noooooooooooooooooo.

Seriously - they could be in your filter, could have gone sunny side up and your house sitter flushed them or they died and the others ate them???? You don't have a cat do you???

I've heard that fish STRESS out when there are changes.....stress causes the bigger and stronger ones to want to eat the little ones. I lost a bottom feeder this way more than once.

I had that happen, too, and all I could determine is that the tankmates ate them. Sick, but probable. Well, I guess it's not sick to a fish...
