What might the cause be for people who are ashamed of what race they are?

~Shame of who they are?
~Saw how badly their own race is treated?
~Low self-esteem?
~Hate their own family/hate themselves?
~Doesn't have an inclination of why they're hated?
~Doesn't understand that they shouldn't care what others think?
~What are the main reasons why?

I would say because their race may be treated as inferior. Which is so silly. There is no superior race. Where did that idea come from, anyway!!

I have a friend and a brother in law that are black. They are embarrassed to be black and hate when people heap them into the pile with the stereotype blacks. They are both hard working and very successfull. They don't speak Ebonics. Good guys ,but thier race embarrasses them.

depends on what country they are from and what country they are now. If the comparison gives much difference by economy / culture / politics / ...etc, they may be ashamed. But when inidvidual abilty and dignity are shown and approved by others, all shame disappear....No one is too rude to discriminate...

you should say - it is in another country!!!
if all their neighbour - with the same race - they will be not feel like stranger or unique.
just put yourself in a place of other race - and see if you will not feel the same...
no matter if it is race - language- invalid or something like that.
it is human react against the "stranger" - not nice, but true.(against women too...)
