My fuel pump just quits at random. It may run fine one day and the next leave me stranded. If i turn the key off for a few minutes it will start and run again for a while. Is there anything ( other than a bad pump ) that would shut power off to the pump when the key is on

Before you replace the pump replace the filter. Its possible the pump is shutting off because it thinks its at pressure because the filters clogged. The fact that it will shut down then start after a bit is also a good indication some fuel is getting through but not enough.

The fuel pump relay may be going bad. You could have a bad wire. Before you replace the pump though, check to make sure you have power going to the pump when it is in it's "quit" spell.

Try replacing the fuel pump relay under the hood.
