Tough question! Would have to vote John Candy but only by a nose and only because he lived to be older than Chris Farley and was able to bring more subtle depth and maturity to his roles where you wanted to laugh even when it seemed like it was inappropriate, whereas Farley was all out slapstick humor. Both were very talented actors and sorely missed.

John Candy was a perfect example of a great, diverse, and to the point kind of funny when it comes to acting. And he will be missed terribly. There are movies that have come out as of late and within the past ten years that he would have been a great addition to. Can you imagine if he would have teamed up with the likes of Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, or Chris Kattan, as well as continue to be a great part of the SCTV group of great actors? I think that even a team up with Chris Farley and David Spade would have been great.

Farley was more physical, Candy more subtle. It's like comparing Jerry Lewis to Chevy Chase. I guess for bust a gut laughs, it was Farley. For better and overall funnier movies it was Candy.
