Outdoor phone wire is thicker to protect it from the elements. Indoor wire will work, but it will not last. There are small companies that install telephones (and business phones) that would sell you what you need. Look in the phonebook under telephone or telecommunications. They especially sell business systems and also do residential. There should be a mom and pop shop.

If the outside wiring will be exposed to alot of sun or water you'd want the thick grey coated wire, if it will be run in conduit or on a place that is protected than you can use the same as inside.

I have always wired my own and used the BEST wiring. Go to radio-shack or something. Do not use the cheap stuff.
No, it isnt the same on newer houses.

Yes, inside phone wire is different, but it will work for a while,try putting sealicone on connections.

NO differance at all, Ive put in many...they all work and all will not be affected by rain since the inner wires are also insulated

You can use exterior grade inside, but you should NOT use interior grade on the outside. Yes the is a difference, and the quality and cost.

the insulation that can withstand being outside; ie sunlight resistant , moistuer resistant , heat resisstant .....outdoor can be used inside...but not indoor beiing outside
