Recently I shipped out a item for about $1,000. I shipped the item and the item's tracking number was never updated. So its pretty much lost by USPs. I shipped it to the confirmed address and with certified mail, which requires a signature. The buyer filed a dispute with me and right now its under investigation by paypal. Knowing paypals "state of the art" dispute system I am very worried about losing this dispute. I need someone to let me know what might or will happen or if anyone had dealt with this situation. I mean I shouldn't be liable right? I offered insurance in my eBay auction and the buyer didn't purchase it.

I'm confused and sounds like you may be also. Before you enter into the paypal dispute resolution center, you should have your information correct.

Was the item sent, USPS or UPS?

You sent it ceritifed mail? That is a USPS service usually used for documents that require a signature but provides no insurance. Not exactly appropriate for $1000.00 item. Did you pay for a return reciept?

Just because the item's tracking number was not updated have you given up? Have you called 1-800- ASK-USPS and spoken to a customer service representive?

With an item being valued at 1000.00 ups, ups only insures up to 100.00. You NEED to call ups and find out about your tracking number. If you printed the shipping label through pay-pal there will be a record of it. Also ups will have a record of it. I have had something similar happen to me, and I made many phone calls to track down this item, it could not be found. I even gave a refund, and 4 days later the buyer got their item. they did pay me back and all was good. You really need to make calls and see if this item can be found. Ups has a record of this item somewhere, you just need to take the steps to find it. EBay is a fair company and since you have sent it certified and it has not been signed for then it lies all on ups. I am sure you have all your records of this transaction. Make copies of everything. You can also contact eBay and see where they are at with this problem. Good Luck and keep your head up, the clouds will clear.

Provide paypal with the tracking number. Provide that number to UPS and have them confirm to you, in writing, that you shipped and that it wasn't delivered. Give that statement to Paypal, and you won't be responsible, because the buyer failed to purchase insurance. However, even if not insured, UPS does have some standard insurance you get based on the weight of the item, so they may be able to recoup some of their loss.

Your 1st wrong was using UPS, as they can't handle packages without destroying them, let alone track them? If they lost the package, then they should be liable? I still have a destroyed package they delivered a month ago & have not gotten with me to pick the dang thing up to send back to the merchant so I can get my money refunded? Lotsa Luck? Tell e-bay to get rid of UPS too?

Unfortunately as a eBay seller yes you are liable. I have had to refund hundreds. ALL peeps have to do is say they never received it. Make sure insurance is a must in any future sales. Best of luck

Just give PayPal the tracking #. Once you have handed it over to a shipper, you are no longer responsible for it!

Good luck Hon!
