I can go to the local votech school to get my cdl license. How do you go about getting a haz-mat endorsement if you do not own a truck to do the driving test? I do not know of anyone who has a truck that I could borrow to take the driving test. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the common quandary. You can't get a vehicle to get a license to drive because you don't have a license to drive the vehicle.

To drive a truck under 26001 GVWR. You don't need a cdl. It is a whole new ball game with a hazmat endorsement. You will need a cdl with hazmat endorsement. If your truck has airbrakes, you will need that endorsement too. That requires a written and a driving test. You can get a temporary license for these. If you have a job lined up, I guess you could drive on the temps and use the company truck for the driving test. That's what we did with the driver we hired last summer. Good luck.

You don't need to take a driving test for Hazmat? It is an extra endorsement that you have to take a written test for then you have to go to a certain Dr. office type place to be fingerprinted & checked out to see if you are a terrorist or the like etc., then they will send something back to tell you if you are eligible for the Hazmat endorsement? It's a pain & very time consuming? Good Luck?
