The last time that I checked, designers did not have to run to the local fabric store to buy material. Why should any girl, who is not naturally slender, starve, purge, and/or endanger their health in order to look good on a runway and make money. Bravo, Madrid. This has been a long time coming. People can and will die from these disorders, and the designers are just interested in adding to their millions and billions. The bottom line is that if you are not naturally the size, you should not be harming yourself to do so. The designers, model agencies, scouts, and models, need to use some common sense, wake up, and realize that. Is there anything wrong with being a size 6 instead of a size 0? I think not.

Fair enough comment.. but I feel strongly that designers shouldn't be making clothes so small in the first place!
I know that these skinny models sometimes can't fit into the clothes so what hope is there for the rest of us who are "normal" sizes?
The age old excuse in the fashion world of saying catwalk clothes look better on skinny women , I'm afraid is a poor one.. that sends a very negative message to us females.i.e you are only classed as sexy/attractive etc if you're thin.
I admit that it would be nice to be a U.K size 8 (U.S 4) but I realistically know that unless I really stop eating and hit the gym every day that it's unachievable, so I live with and am content with being a size or two bigger. I don't feel BIG or unattractive.
Gosh! I really went into that one eh? Sorry you asked a simple question and I ran off at the mouth so to speak!

Real, average women just are not that skinny. I consider myself slim, not skinny or bony, I do have some thickness to me. It is like you have to be no more than 100 lbs. to be a model. I can understand why the models can't be straight out fat, but I don't understand why designers create clothes for women who look like tall, lanky 13 year old boys to model them. They must be expecting only women who fit that description to buy the clothes. Some of the models look so poor, you can see their rib cages. I get sort of sick for real looking at high fashion pictures sometimes. That's not sexy and it is not the best success strategy as far as attracting more customers and making money. Something that looks good on a real, grown a** woman is what I want to see and buy, because that is what I am and I still have curves/nice shape and am physically fit (I'm just not a size 0-2 and I am so proud of and happy with my size/weight). The modeling world could use women who are a little bigger, but are still curvy, healthy and in shape.

Because the fashion designers COULD make the dresses bigger. Its that simple. Young girls STARVE themselves. And for what? So the designers save a half yard of material? Models do not have to be skinny if the designers make the clothing of an appropriate size for normal people.

yeah why do us teens have to explain it but i don't see why they can't have a mixture of skinny, normal size and plus size models to represent diversity that is real is in the real world i think that would be positive as it show just to be your natural size and there is always something for you to wear no matter what size you are. the designers can make different size dresses.

Designers make dresses small to fit the anorexic models. If models are needed which are more voluptuous, or healthy and more shapely, then dresses would be made to fit them.

People look and feel better with a little weight on their bodies. These anorexic models are too sick from starving their bodies they just won't last long in the business. They're ruining their bodies and their lives by starving themselves to death just make themselves too skinny.

I think the real goal is that the designers need to make dress sizes that hit HEALTHY models.

theyre all so skinny because the clothes hang better on a wirey frame, thats why lingere models are more buxom, it makes the clothes look better. healthy models are out of the question, they will never exist, models will always be superskinny. fact o life.
