The Tigers are a huge suprise. A good suprise for me, since I've been waiting for them to make the playoffs...well for a long time. The Red Sox were a disapointment....and St Louis is looking like it could be a disapointment. Houston and Philly were nice suprises as well as Florida

not a team, but a player surprised me. Melky Cabrera was horrible last season. His fielding was awful and he couldn't hit. When he was brought in this season to fill in for Hideki Matsui,I was crushed. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well he could field. He is one of the best outfielders in baseball today. He has a number of assists and runners think twice about advancing on him during those close plays. He's definately a better fielder than Matsui. Melky has a good eye at the plate, works the count and walks. While he doesn't have much power (which I believe will come),Melky always seems to get the job done in and out of key spots. I hope he will get rookie of the year but more so, I hope he gets in ample playing time with the return of Matsui.

Positive surprises - Dodgers rebirth. Twins putting it all together. Tigers rebounding from years of disappointment. Mets running away with the NL East. Phillies outstanding second half.
Negative surprises - Red Sox losing heart after the Yankee 5 game sweep in August. White Sox falling apart in September. Same situation with the Cardinals.
My Yankees had a difficult road this year with more than their share of injuries but managed to put it together and win AL East. They should win it all this season and look in great shape for next season as well.

There always is.
Sort of surprised how badly the Cards are blowing it.
My fave team, the A's, did its usual second-half surge only this time the Angels did not rise to the occasion so back in the playoffs, baby! I expected it as I expect it every year in the Billy Beane era.
Every year matters for the A's. Let's go Oakland!

I think the Marlins surprised everybody with all the rookies they
have but they fight to the end. Joe Girardi should be Manager of
the year then go to Chicago and get a pennant for the Cubbies.
The individual that I think surprised everyone was Soriano out in
left field. He took it like a man and played hard and carried a big
stick.

Tigers leading the AL central for most of the year. Most people knew the central would be the strongest division in baseball, but the tigers suprised me. lots of young guys with skills and lots of veterans that can still play well. Cards and Astros leading the NL central was no big suprise, but with such weak reccords suprised me. Braves not winning the NL east wasnt a suprise but it felt really weird, and still does that they wont be seen in the postseason, indians not doing well. In short, yes there were a few suprises in baseball this year.

hands down... marlins. at the beginning of the year, everyone was betting over how many games over a hundred will they lose. in the end, they did pretty good and just fell short of making it into the playoffs.
second is the tigers of course. we knew they would do well, but just not this well. favorites to win this years world series.

The Tigers exceeded my wildest expectations.
I was hoping for 80-82 wins, possibly finishing at or above .500 for the first time since 1993.
No way did I ever think they wold be in the playoffs this year!
