a cricket ball is hit into the air at time t=0. its height, h, above the ground is given by the expression h= 25t - 9.8t^2. what is the value of 't' when the ball lands on the ground?

from eq:

h=25t-9.8t^2

When the ball hits the ground,

h=0

Then the time t when the ball hits the ground is given by:

0=25t-9.8t^2 or 0=t(25-9.8t)

2 solutions possible:

t=0 or t=25/9.8= approx. 2.55 (sec or min depending on the units of the equation)

I would favor t=2.55 since physically we have a given that at t=0, the ball was in the air.

That's my 2-cents solution, hoping that I am not doing the homework for you - I don't like to encourage lazziness
