Ignorance can be cured by learning. Greed would be my first choice as the root of all evil especially if one thinks of people living in community. A decision based on self interest rather than community interest could lead to evil.

No I don't think ignorance is the root of all evil. I don't believe that there is a root, in my opinion commiting an evil act is the person's choice and cannot be blamed on ignorance or greed or any of that. The person can choose to commit the act or they can choose not to. They can still be ignorant, greedy, have a lack of forsight, fear non survival and still not be evil.

Naw. Ignorance is just a lack of knowledge. Knowledge can always be gained. If anything is evil, it would be purposeful ignorance - a conscious choice to NOT learn anything new.

Or Arrogance. Arrogance can lead someone into all sorts of evil because the person is so sure they have the correct answers for everything.

No, I don't believe that ignorance is the root of all evil. It is possible for one to be ignorant and yet innocent. I know some very kind sweet kids who could easily be described as "ignorant."

Selfishness and selfish ambition are at the root of all evil. If one were to stop and truly consider others and see them as people with lives and hopes and dreams (and really care about them), it would prevent things like Enron, bank robberies, rapes, identity theft, etc., etc.

It is focusing on self to the detriment of others that results in all kinds of evil.

Evil usually has its' roots in cleverness, not stupidity. Beware! It takes a smart mind to manufacture evil or bad things against other humans. This evil is planned, calculated, and precise. The victim almost always under-estimates this enemy that may pose as a friend. Watch your back. I am not joking about this!

Think of Jefffey Daumer or Ted Bundy. Do I need to say more?

No, I do not agree with that point. Sin is the root of all evil. There are many kinds of sins. Violations of the 10 commandments are sins. Greed is a sin, but there are so many sins. The devil is the Representative of evil. Alot of people say, "The devil made me do it." so could the devil be the root of evil?

it really isn't any longer the inspiration of all evil, yet i will agree that it performs an element in human beings being "evil." Intolerance is extra of what you're searching for because the reason of lack of expertise, that motives such stupid acts through human beings, hostile to different human beings.

Well I would say the ignorance is at the root of most evil. But Money is still in the running.

Not the root of all evil. Many people that do evil actually think it is good.

i think that maybe that mindset of "me me me" is the root of all evil. would that fall under selfishness or being self-serving? it causes us to turn a blind eye from others' needs. we would rarely do anything without thinking, what's in it for me? we never have enough, its always more more more. maybe its really just human nature to provide for one's self before others, but sometimes its just too much.
