Its pretty clear -- and challenging to compassionately and intelligently deal with and yet remain faithful to God's Word -- we always need to remember that we were instructed to hate the sin but love the sinner and help them overcome and cope with the sinful tendencies that this fallen world has yoked them with -- there's all kinds of compulsions to sin that different people need to resist, we can't just give ourselves over to them and call them a lifestyle
Romans 1:18-32 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
God's Wrath Against Mankind
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

I have a couple of books that explain the arguments that the Bible doesn't really say anything about homosexuality. They are called: "What the Bible REALLY says about homosexuality" by Daniel A. Helminiak, PhD and "The Children are Free: Reexamining the biblical evidence on same-sex relationships" by Rev. Jeff Miner and John Tyler Connoley. The first one is very technical and detailed and reads like a masters thesis type book, and the second is very down to earth. They present the argument that the Bible is not against homosexuality. I don't really know anything about the details for the anti-homosexual argument, but your father would be better at that point than I would be.
The sources I quoted here pretty much show what the Bible really means by the Leviticus source and the Sodom and Gomorrah story, and the New Testament sources by Paul as well

Can I just say that "mankind" is the entire population. How do we refer to the human race, "mankind" How did we refer to the human race when man landed on the moon, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." A word's meaning can change after a few thousand years.
This is where interpretation and language in the bible becomes important. People fail to realize that the Bible has been translated multiple times, one of the first being Hebrew to Greek. Also, these original documents contain words that aren't used anymore or have double or even triple meanings, not unlike English today.

I do not know of a place in the bible where it tells you that its a sin to be gay. If it is a sin why did god allow them to be gay when they were born? People are not gay by choice and why should we discriminate against them. They are different from me but that does not mean that don't have feelings too. Next time you talk to the minister ask him why god made gay people gay.

I give you credit..."he hasn't got back to me yet" in the above comment has qualified you as "being a little less than" understanding.
When you typed this question I feel you are requesting feed back in regards to something that you feel condemned about or/ are looking for some to say it's OK.
Hey, ...could be totally wrong in my evaluation , if you want to ask millions of people the "RIGHT OR WRONG" of being biblical justified in gay issues...you are setting yourself up to be targeted.
It is a very "STRONG" projection you ask, and I don't know of anything that the bible pinpoints in regards to being gay.
I can tell you this...if "Christ" himself was sitting beside you now, how would you feel? ...Wanna ask him if maybe.. he is a little funny"?
Don't ask millions of people... ("do you understand why not") you know the answer without asking...
So...if everyone was gay...we would become as the dinosaurs non-existent. We could not re-populate the earth.
GEEZZZ ...why did I get involved in this...I want 50 points, do you hear me yahoo!!!!

As for gay "marriage", GN 2:24 and MK 10:6-8. The purpose of "marriage" is procreation.
As for "civil union" that would/could/does apply to "DINKs" who live on the upper east side of NY City.
(Double Income, No Kids) There is no intentiion of "being fruitful" therefore there is no "marriage". The same would then apply to "gay" couples. Call it union, and I'll support it. Call it marriage, and you change the definition of the word.
You are correct in your interpretation of the Sodom event, but as for as "sex with angels, cf: LK 20:34-36 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age (heaven) and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels.
In the OT the Cannanites, and in the NT the Corinthians, and the Romans were known for their self gratification. (cf: Start your study with the 6th and 9th Commandments. Anything opposed to the virtue of chastity is a sin against the 6th or ninth commandment. Such sins include: lust, masturbation, fornication, adultery, rape, homosexual acts, prostitution, pornography, and incest.
Then there is:
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. ... Do not defile yourselves by any of these things" (Leviticus 18:22, 24).
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination..." (Leviticus 20:13).
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error" (Romans 1:26-27).
"Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts ... shall inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
"...The law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, ... immoral persons, sodomites ... and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine" (1 Timothy 1:9-10).
ccf: Gal 5:19-24; Eph 5:5; Jude 1:7
But make the difference between sexual orientation vs. practice.
Hate the sin, but love the sinner
I hope that helps

There is nowhere in the Bible where it says it is sin to BE gay, that is an involuntary biological response, the sin is for men to engage in homosexual activity, "...to lie with a man as with a woman." There is no injunction against lesbian sex, apparently that was acceptable. The Christians expanded it further by adding thought crime, wanting to do something is, for spiritual purposes, the same as doing it, so that it physically impossible not to sin, thus making Jesus, and by implication the clergy, the only way to avoid damnation. As to Sodom and Gomorrah, the legal definition of "sodomy" is oral or anal sex, straight or gay, even with your spouse, or sexual activity with an animal. The association with homosexuality results from that being the statute used to prosecute them in court.

...sounds to me like God loves the gay people he created...
Isaiah 56:3-8
4 For thus says the Lord:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose the things that please me
and hold fast my covenant,
5 I will give in my house and within my walls
a monument and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.
6 “And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,
and to be his servants,
everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
and holds fast my covenant—
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain,
and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house shall be called a house of prayer
for all peoples.”
8 The Lord God,
who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares,
“I will gather yet others to him
besides those already gathered.”

it states man will not lay with man (and the key here is> AS HE DOES WITH A WOMAN), to me this indicates having intercourse.
it points to the sodomite ppl,But I can find it no where else directly although one may find slight implications to the need to not spill or waste the seed as they are trying to do what we have accomplished fill the earth. In fact we've been so good at that we're over populated, and ppl are starving.
