Well, I have to do a research project on any scientist that works in any field of physics..and I got recommended from my teacher to do Stephen Hawkings..but when I try to research things on sites and such, all the information is hard to understand, considering I'm only in middle school. Would anyone be kind enough to help me and explain his theories (right or wrong) in a simpler way? o__o; Something maybe a middle school student can understand?

Try reading "A Brief History of Time." Its a relatively short book by him which is much easier to understand than reading his lectures because its written for the general public. Its a really good book.

Wow! You've picked a very difficult subject! But you know Dr. Hawking has a web page www.hawking.org.uk That might be a good place to start. Also, there are two fairly elementary books about his ideas that I am aware of: "A Briefer History of Time" by Hawking himself. It is a scaled down version of his more famous book " A Brief History of Time". There is also a book about his theories in comic book form that I liked called "Introducing Stephen Hawking" by J.P. McEvoy and Oscar Zarate.

Dr. Hawking has been responsible for increased understanding of black holes and their relationship to Quantum Theory and the Theory of General Relativity. If I remember correctly his two most famous contributions were: first, to prove that if General Relativity was correct the Big Bang had to start as an infinitely dense thing called a singularity , similar to the singularity that is supposed to be at the center of a black hole. He also proved that black holes are not totally black and must emit some very small amount of radiation in the form of subatomic particle and that after many trillions and trillion of years all black holes will eventually evaporate! He also came up with the idea of imaginary time which I never really understood very well.

There are also several videos out there about his theories that are on video-tape or DVD. Check your local library. Good luck!

Hawking is famous for his theories on black holes and space warps.Try some articles on these concepts that are geared toward the general public, and not to physics students. Popular science, Discovery, or Nova might be good sites to check out.

this is only 2 pages but it tells a little bit about him and the biggest things he studied - it might help.

Maybe you should do someone else. His theories can't really be explained simply.
