besides the normal pay out dividend are there other valid reasons for why GE would be a good stock to recommend to investors

One of the reasons GE is on my radar is because it is one of the top ten most profitable publicly traded companies in the country. If it makes a lot of money, that should be worth consideration. It has been consistently profitable for quite a while now and has excellent prospects for that to continue, which is still another reason to be interested. It has a price to earnings ratio of just under 20, which is to say that it is not excessively bid up, as if a lot of people were pinning excessive expectations, which is also nice. Graphicly, the recent trend has been up for a while now and the yearly price range is narrow (32.06-36.34) and it closed at 35.30 on friday, but over the last decade it has had some much bigger activity (around 15 in 1997 and about 60 in 2000 and back to low 20s after the tech-stock bubble burst.

You will never know for sure, but with that kind of basics there's a really good chance that you won't lose your shirt on it, but you probably won't be bragging about tripling your money in three months, as if you were lucky enough to guess which company that would happen to. You could easily do worse, own with confidence.

One benefit of GE is its huge diversivication - 13 sectors last time I looked. This can help in time of financial downturn.
Check the beta score. 1 means it matches the market up and down. A minus number means it goes against the market's move, a postive is beyond the market.
I usually check P/E and like something under 20. For the rest, check out Vector Vest. The first 50 stocks you send through their system are free. There is plenty of detail. Good place.

General Electric owns 80% of NBC Universal which owns Telemundo (The fastest growing advertising market for television in the United States of America is the spanish language market)

In a few years every television show ever aired on Telemundo will be available for FREE on YouTube (Advertising will be shared among General Electric and YouTube)

Look at their projected earnings for the next few years. I own GE, I bought it because of the dividend and the projected earnings over the next few years. Good Luck :-)
