I really don't understand why elective cesarean sections are still on the rise. It really urkes me.

There is a reason that babies are pushed through the birth canal. It naturally expels amniotic fluid..kinda like the Heimlich maneuver.

I totally respect medically Necessary c-sections.

Call me crazy but "vaginal preservation" vs major surgery is silly. Our vaginas are meant to stretch in childbirth! Mine went back to normal after all four of my deliveries.

Some women are choosing cesarean birth and the reason the Dr puts down is
"vaginal preservation".

Saying that you want to have a cesarean because you do not what to go through the pain is ridiculous. Because recovering from a cesarean is the pits. I would rather have 6 vaginal deliveries than one cesarean. Plus the complications from cesareans are horrendous. Not everyone recovers with no problem. Infection of the incision, I have seen people return back because their incision came apart. Adhesion. Perforation of the bowel (that is a bad one).

In my opinion, a good OB who is more worried about the health of mommy and baby, and not lining his pocket in the shortest amount of time, will not let you schedule a c-section without there being a medical reason.

But on the other hand, and I really hate to use her as an example, but I can understand why Britney Spears had scheduled cesareans. In those types of cases, it could be too dangerous to try and get to the hospital in a hurry if you're surrounded by people taking photos.

In the case of a regular person, though, there needs to be a reason.

Well I don't think it is anyone's business other than the mothers, why would someone judge? But, as far as pain, I had an emergency c section after 20 hours of labor and even though you are numb, it still hurts, and you vomit repeatedly afterward and are out of it for two days and the recovery hurts so bad, you are basically laid up for 6 weeks. I don't know why anyone would choose that option unless it was a necessity.

I think women are just afraid of labour and childbirth. It is very painful, and it changes a woman's body forever. The tearing or cutting of the vaginal opening doesn't always go back to normal..sewn up too much, not enough, uneven..the list goes on forever.
As for Ceasaren sections...they cut your stomach muscles..so they never grow back together right, so you're messing up your abdomen for life. I'll definitely go natural again next time..if I'm lucky enough to have a next time.

I think C sectons are easier but more painful and longer to heal from than a regular natural birth...you are up and running sooner w/natural. I had 3 sons: 8.5 lbs., 10 lbs. and 9 lbs. 10 1/2 oz//all natural....the pain is soon fogotten and the joy of parenting begins....I would never opt for a C-section.

Women that opt. for a c-section usually like the fact that it's less painful, they can actually pick the date of the arrival, or have had some complication they fear will complicate their delivery and want to go a route they feel will be safer. It's not something I would opt. for - but to each woman their own.

It all depends on the OB you have. I had to have a c-section with our daughter. My right kidney was failing and I would not be tolerate back labour and pain from kidney infections.

I do agree it seems a high number are being performed.
God forbid you should have to push the child out you created!

1. Because they don't want to go through the pain
2. Because they don't want the elasticity of their birth canal affected
3. Because they want to choose the date of the birth for whatever reason ie. holidays etc..
4. Because they can... especially if they can afford ie... mostly private hospitals do this but not public
