Her parents frown upon it because usually dating prison inmates is not a good idea. How can you date them really anyway? Just go in for "conjugal visits?"
Keep in mind that many of the opportunities normal people have are not open to convicts, even once they get out- many good jobs aren't available, many schools won't let convicts in, etc. If she were to stay with this guy she'd be giving up a lot of opportunities and basically asking for her life to be harder. She better make sure it's really worth it.
I suppose ultimately it depends on why the guy is in jail. Depending on the offense it'd be outrageous to even consider dating an inmate.

One cannot study at the college level and have such unbalanced concentration. You are at the most critical crossroads of your life. You are choosing between your dreams and your fears. You, not your parents, must make this decision. And, you know that. So, do you want the dream of a better life with an education and travel and good health care and prosperity . . .a dream that requires your concentration and hard work, your personal best? Or, do you want marriage and a family with a partner who has already brought himself down with terrible judgment, and who would most likely keep you and your children down? If you really intend to be an adult in your life, always chose your highest dreams. Aim at the highest star that you can. And, then, if you don't quite make it all the way, at least you'll wind up among the other stars.

oh honey! let me tell you! i dated a guy that went to prison a few times. i always thought that he was a good person deep down inside and that things would get better. i have know him for 4 years now and he's only been out of jail for about 6 months of those 4 years. people who are in prison are in there for a reason. and guys like that, don't really care who they are with, just as long as they are not alone. my hubby is a corrections officer in a prison and works visitation. a lot of the guys have multiple girls that come visit at different times and don't even know about each other. why let him drag you down? he has nothing good to offer you.

BU is a large college without a ordinary college campus. there are fairly some elite faculties in the Boston metro section like Harvard, MIT, Holy go, BC, Tufts so that they face some particularly stiff competition for faculty kids with lots of u.s.'s perfect faculties suitable there.

It's not okay for anyone to date someone in prison, whether their parents look down upon it or not. Set higher standards for yourself!

Parents will always look down on someone in prison. Mine do and I'm way out of college. Follow your heart. But be careful, alot of inmates are real con-artists.

A young woman in college has way too much potential and is too good to be dating someone in prison. It's a tragic waste of her life & emotions.

How can you date someone in prison? Do they let him out to go on dates? Its stupid to get involved with someone in prison. Your parents are smarter than you, and they care about you, so you should listen to them.

I had a pen pal in prision for over 2 years. I thought i knew him inside and out. Until he accidentally sent me a letter he'd wrote to another girl, then it was like i never really knew him. If you loved him before he went into prison, that'd be different. My advice though, if you don't know him, stay away. My heart was crushed, and our wedding was called off. Don't make the same mistake.
