With a true understanding ones own imperfections.

I think if the goal of this 'perfecting' is to become 'perfect'...then you can't do anything to make it happen - sorry, but it won't. No one is, or will be perfect.

However, there are ways to improve yourself as a person, depending on the areas you'd like to improve. But for everything you do there are three steps:

1.Discover (the problem)
2.Plan (the solution)
3.Do (take action)

Repeat if necessary.

I think you what you meant is "improve yourself". My feeling is that everbody has some area that needs shoring up. I look at this simple prayer.

The Serenity Prayer
by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
Complete, Unabridged, Original Version.

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

Free yourself from yourself: psychology. Not much room here nor the time to describe all the angles. Ego is self certainty then anti-ego is self doubt. Make use of them both: question.

Perfection does not exist, but you can try to improve yourself, reading more, learning more, controlling your temper and manners, dealing with other people, and acting with justice

PERFECT would be tough act to follow. Better, maybe.

Look around us, there are many characters around, with good and bad attributes in them. Pick up the good ones that you enjoy/appreciate (attributes/values/personality etc) and emulate them. Have them in you. They are lessons from the living classroom!

"I do not crush the world's wreath of wonders
and I do not kill
the mysteries I meet
in my path
in flowers, eyes, on lips or graves.
Others' light
smothers the mystery of the impenetrable
hidden in the depths of darkness,
but I,
with my light I deepen the world's mystery -
and, just as the moon with its beams
does not diminish but rather deepens
even further the mystery of the night,
so do I enrich the dark horizon
with large flowers of sacred mystery,
and all that's incomprehensible
turn into even greater unknowns
right under my eyes -
because I love
flowers and eyes and lips and graves."

Perfect myself????
I would be happy with a little improvement, but cannot aspire to perfection.
