What a shame to be born into one political stripe and never have the opportunity of making your own decision about anything that goes on in your country. The party makes all the decisions and you just have to follow along as if you are really in a controlling situation since you are a member of that party. Sort of like the cars at a fair that you find in Kiddie Land. The cars are on tracks but the steering wheels move but the car doesn't respond to the wheels position so that it looks like you control what is going on but in reality you don't.

You are not born a political party. Being a Republican or Democrat is a choice. Gender, eye color, race, and other genetic stuff like that is what you are born with. But only because your parents are a certain political party does not automatically mean that you are the same. When you register to vote, you check whatever party you want.

If you are a legal citizen of the United States and 18 years or older, you can register to vote. You declare your party when you vote in the primary only. After that when you vote you can choose from either party when you mark your ballot. You can choose all one party or choose from both if there is a candidate you like better from another party. You are not born to either party. You study the issues you are interested in, and find out who best represents what you want to support. It should be a very personal choice. It is a secret ballot and you don't have to tell anyone how you voted. I am a Republican by choice...not birth. Good luck and study and listen hard. There is an important election coming up. You are the only one in the booth...I hope you will use all your good insight and wisdom in your decisions.

You are not 'born a Republican' or a Democrat or any other party. Most people do tend to associate with the party that their parents did. In the US you can join or leave any political party at will. You can even vote for members of different parties for different offices in the some election.
