Ok, I'm heading to England next June, and I need to know how to spend my last afternoon/night in London. That's the only free time I'll have in the city (the rest of the time, I'll be touring the countryside).
What's a must see? What has long lines and lots of tourists? What is a good deal pricewise??
Thanks!!!

Couple of suggestions:
Check out Piccadilly Circus, Chinatown & Leicester Square.
Walk tour around the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Cross over the Westminster Bridge to the London Eye. Purchase tickets for 530pm. Take tube to Tower Hill. Should be around noon, nice deli next to Tower Bridge along the Thames River. Tour Tower of London. Take walk across the Tower Bridge. Nice view of Thames. Head back to Westminster via the tube to line up for 530pm London Eye. 30mins ferris wheel ride.
Take tube to Camden Town. Walk around, check out the crazy hair and shoes. Gifts/crafts. Take tube to Covent Garden. Stop for lunch at one of the outdoor cafes, entertainers usually there. Take tube to Leicester Square. Walk to Great Newport Street and visit The Photographer’s Gallery. Tonight perhaps take the Jack the Ripper Tour. A spooky and educational tour of London’s oldest pub. Includes a stop for dinner.
Take tube to St. Paul’s. Walk around church and Crypt. Then take the stairs to the Whispering Gallery and continue to the top for an unbelievable ariel view of London. Stop in a local pub for yummy sandwiches and fries, plus they will tell you when the football games will be on. Take bus to Trafalgar Square. Along the way you will pass Harrod’s. Visit the National Gallery. This Museum houses some of the oldest paintings in Europe as well as well-known works of art such as Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Dinner at one of London’s many restaurants.

If you will only have a few hours, and have never been to London before, then it is probably best to decide which of the major tourist attractions you really want to see most of all. There are so many "must-sees" that it is really impossible to recommend just a single one...it all depends on what interests you most.

The city is always full of tourists in June, so all the big sites will inevitably be pretty busy, but you have to work out what you want personally dont want to miss. But bare in mind that a couple of hours is not likely to be enough to do anywhere justice...if you are only going to have a very quick look, then its probably better to avoid museums, galleries, or historical sites. You will need a minimum of half a day to do each of these properly.

Maybe a relaxing river trip up the Thames from Westminster to Greenwich would be a good idea, you get to see a different view and it is interesting and informative. Or you could just go shopping!

I don't generally go in for tours, but there are a few bus companies in London that offer a "Hop on, Hop off" tour of London for the day. They travel a route past alllllll of the famous historical attractions with a running commentary. You may get off the bus at any of the sites, stay as long as you like and get back on to continue. The buses come along about every 10 minutes. Some even offer a free river cruise that will take you to the Tower of London.

If you only have one day, you really need to make the most of your time. So I think that my suggestion just might fill the bill for you.

As for Evening entertainment, I would recommend going to the theater. There is a half price ticket booth in Leister Square, selling tickets for that evening's performances. Don't be tempted to purchase tickets from any of the surrounding ticket brokers tho. They are generally a rip off. Either buy your ticket at the theater, or the half price ticket booth.

Many restaurants in Covent Garden have pre-theatre and apres-theatre fixed price 2 and 3 course meals.

After that, you may wish to soak your tootsies, back in your room! For it will be a FULL day! :))

Enjoy

If you only have a few hours then walk from Tower bridge towards the London Eye, you can stop at The Tate Modern (free), HMS Belfast, London Dungeon, Clink museum, Vineopolis (massive wine place with restaurant) and London Eye, a bit further along is the Houses of Parliment / Big Ben (free).

Buy a map and start from Westminster station where you can see Big Ben, the houses of parliament and Westminster Abbey. Walk up towards Victoria Station, chuck a right (Buckingham Gate) and head up towards Buckingham Palace. Continue through Pall Mall towards Piccadilly Circus, then Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square. It'd take 2-3 hours and you'd get a lot of sights in.
