Your question is here in the Philosophy section - let me therefore look for a philosophical answer.

An out of the box answer could be that
the shape is such so that one can not see the whole planet merely from ground level -- one has to rise much above to get the full picture.

Gravity is not the entire answer. Why are some of the asteroids odd shapes, they're spinning and circling the sun too. The most likely reason is our internal core...molten lava. Can we assume that the other planets have the same core, thus their shapes? Better to ask this in the Astronomy forum, philosophically speaking, however, i would say that its easy to believe in a flat earth world view, but hard to believe in something that's not readily apparent....ie, oval world view.

When our planet formed it was shaped the gravitational pull mixed with a bunch of other forces including it's magnetic fields and from the center of our solar system, our Sun. With these forces all interchanging their power, our planet has turned out to be rather oval.

Because of gravity. The planet is so massive it pulls itself in from every direction, creating a sphere. If it was a big cube, it would turn into a sphere because it would pull the corners in to be even with the rest of the planet.

God made the shape of our planet like this.

Irina,

If the earth was a different shape we would have to change all the maps again. It seems that just a few hundred years ago we got around to changing them to what they are now. LOL

Much easier to rotate a circular planet than a square one!

Its gravity pulls it together evenly in every direction, but its turning pushes its center out slightly so it is a bit like an egg.

circular is far the strongest form..
and because of gravity things tend to form in circles....and of course the spinning motion makes things go into a circle....
plus and foremost God made it that way...
thank you very much!
