Try an exfoliant, but then seal in the moisture and prevent further dryness. Check out the great article below....

RE:
My face skin is ridiculously dry and flaky, even though i've keep on putting moisturiser. What can i do?
I'm currently using the loreal happyderm cleanser for dry and sensitive skin and nivea aqua sensation moisturiser. I washed my face every morning and regurally use the moisturiser through out the day. I even drink almost 2 liter of water everyday. But it's still not working. The dry and...

Wow, that's a bummer!
I also have dry, rough skin on my face--especially now that the weather is cooler. I would suggest using a gentle exfoliator too--that will help lift off some of the dead skin cells to give you a smoother texture. Just make sure it is gentle, so it doesn't tear your face off. i.e. anything made from the shell of anything is too abrasive. And I've yet to find anything that softens my skin like St. Ives Vitamin E Moisturizer. I would definitely recommend trying a moisturizer intended for the body as they tend to be richer. Be sure to check your products to make sure they don't have alcohol or camphor listed early in the ingredients. A lot of things that claim to be good for your skin are high in alcohol, which dries it out. Water or glycerin listed as the first, second or third ingredient is definitely your best bet!
If all else fails, perhaps a dermatologist can help you out.
Good luck!

If you are getting half of your body weight in ounces of water a day, then you are properly hydrated, so that rules that out...It may be a fungal condition. Are you having excessive vaginal yeast infections? If so, then, you are out of balance and it will reflect in your skin. I had the same thing, and increased my yogurt intake (make sure it has live active cultures) and took acidolphus (sp) supplements to get your good bacteria back in balance.
Our skin is an "out" for toxins in our body, but if it's really bothering you, a little tea tree oil mixed with some almond oil can temporarily relieve the dryness and itching (if you have that as well).
Those external moisturizers are nothing but a crutch...until you've determined that it is indeed a fungal infection, you will continue having dry skin.
Best Wishes to you...

Try washing your face only at night right before bed with noxema (original); let face dry for a few mintues. Next apply Oil of Olay Regenerist daily regererating serum (my miracle in a bottle) generously to your entire face, and other areas if needed. In the morning don't use any moisturizer. If you wear makeup, try a matte blend (such as Maybelline dream matte mousse) rather than a liquid.

The problem is that most lotions have alcohol and harsh chemicals in them that open your pores and make your skin feel soft temporarily but as soon as you wash your hands, that moisture is taken away again. I use natural lotion bars that are heat activated with the warmth of your hands and they take a min to soak in the skin but last a long time after wards! It is fine to put on your face and you won't breakout or anything. Everyone who I know has tried it and loves it! It really works and all his products are guaranteed!
