Blasphemy is only an opinion based off your religious beliefs. I have no religion, so blasphemy, to me, does not exist. It's all in your personal perspective. So, NO, it should not be an offense because to me and many like me, it is something that is imaginary, not real.

Understand this. Christian fundamentalism is love thy neighbour, love god, turn the other cheek, not organised religon Christ said pray whenever 3 or more are gathered together, not go to church, elect a pope etc.. Christian fundamentalism is the core lifestyle which most UK folk, Humanitrians, even agnostics or Atheists actually follow if not believe.

Islamic Fundamentalism however is about Muslims being superior to non muslims, all non believers should be put to the sword etc so the Extremeists are Fundamentalists.

Some nutter christian sects seek to abuse the Christian Fundamentalism concept by applying the title to Old Testament derived concepts, which denounce Gays etc but this is a gross corruption

Blaspheming is only an offence to those people who want it to be an offence. In todays atheistic society there just aren't enough people who care. If this weren't true, then why do the major western religions feel that they have to actively recruit members? They are more like a cult than anything else these days.

It would be hard to make it an offence that the police or courts would want to be a part of because "Blasphemy is a Religious opinion depending upon which Religion that you follow."
You should be able to have the freedom to follow your own religion as long as it does not infringe on the freedom of other people to live their life peacefully in pursuit of their own religion.
Live your life in the peacefull pursuit of your god and religion and you shouldn't go wrong.

Theres Gods law and Mans law and the bible does try to mix the two.
God gave people freedom of choice for a reason so that goes along with the freedom he gave us--It should be a persons choice--of course theres always going to be a consequence for going against any law-Mans or Gods .

Of course not. In the USA we have separation of church and state (except when G.W.B. is Pres.) and making blaspheme unlawful would be unconstitutional on many fronts (including the right to free speech).

Maybe the West are heathens.
You may have a point.
Remember the times when Bill Clinton thumped on his Bible and preached to us?
And had the reporters film him while he bit his lip and cried in black churches?
It was fun to watch. He fooled the hicks that supported him. He called them: "Big City Hicks".
Cool!

i think it would be interesting... think of all the people that use God's name in vain... what upsets me is that if you say anything bad about any other religious person or about a religion, everyone comes down on you and expects an apology but people can say anything about God and christianity and get away with it... i respect people of other religions and i expect people to respect mine as well.

Blasphemy is just contradicting something from a religion. It would be very STUPID to make it an offence.
