I'm planning on buying a lazy boy leather recliner and of course the sales people tell me I should buy the Guardsman furniture protection plan which is an additional $89. Is this something really necessary or is this just another money maker for the corporation? Will any store bought leather cleaner do?

We would always ask if you would buy protection plans for anything else. If you would then you will probably buy this.

If you are considering it always read all the small print as you amy find that a lot of things are not covered.

A protection plan does not mean that your furniture has been protected in any way. Always buy a good leather protector and don't assume that any old cleaner will work. Many shop bought cleaners and 'conditioners' /protectors simply do not work.

Good names for products are Leathermaster, Fenice and LTT

Furniture warranties are absolutely worth it, but be sure to read the warranty when you get it home. It is like homeowners insurance, you don't wait 2 months to report a robbery, you have to follow the terms, and then you will be sure to be taken care of. I noticed that another person had mentioned Leather Master, the company who used to own Leather Master US was Stainsafe, but they have decided to switch to an updated brand of products that is even better (some La-z-boys use this warranty).

I wouldn't pay what they charge for furniture anyway, so I'd have to say no. Look around a bit more. Some places inluded the protection in a promo offer. If you decide you still want the other peice, ask if they can match the other companies offer.

I would have to say yes being an X employee, I've seen customers who had it and returned item that could not be fixed, or problems corrected and it was just replaced. But remember, you have to make sure the plan is current when you do this or you will just be SOL...

You didn't mention the color of the leather. If it's light in color, then yes, I'd purchase it.
