I am proud to be a geek/nerd, obsessive computer programming, spend my lunch time in the library, joined the knitting club, book club, in the school marching band, listen to goth, death, heavy metal, and dress like a boy.

Up until now, I had no problems with my personality, until 4 different girls started picking on me for those traits.

I don't think I should change because of them, but any advice?

No, I'm sorry that you are being picked on. Just try to laugh it off, being nice to them will make them mad! That's the best thing to do, or ignore them. P.S. I hope you don't get too much into that death metal stuff...

Personally I am not into the Gothic stuff, but you are who you are. Don't allow people to pick on you. You should try to be more feminine, entirely up to you. Then you could be a cute nerd. I wish I would have been more of a nerd in school. Let me tell you college is hard when you don't learn like you should in high or middle school. The only person who you should try to please is yourself. Sadly, people do stereotype. Appearance plays a big part in others treating you with respect. I'm not saying give up your personality, sounds like you are a sweet person. But don't hide under boy clothes. You don't have to be skinny or dress skimpy. In college I took a speech class that focused on your look. Keep up the studying and take up for yourself. One day you will be a lot better off then them when you will be able to depend on yourself financially...

You are doing fine just being yourself. However, Halloween is coming so you could freak everyone out and come to school dressed as the "typical" girl student of the 50s. Might be interesting to see how others react to a change in appearance even though you are still the same person. Might make a good report, too.

Well . . . if the girls picking on you were D.A.R. types, what would you expect? If you're happy with your life and what it brings you; if you're not hurting anyone or jeopardizing their freedom, you have every right to live it as you choose. It's okay to dance to a different drummer.

Your only challenge(s) may come, when you elect to enter the general work force, as you may be faced with the "C" word ("compromise"). To get a better grasp on this, rent "My First Mister" and observe the character played by Leelee Sobieski.

Meanwhile . . . be unique. Be free. Be creative. Be curious. Be honest. Be proud!

If that's who you are and you are happy being that way, DO NOT CHANGE because of them! Someday you'll go to a reunion, and they won't be as fabulous as they thought they were back in middle school. You will, though, because you were more than they were from the beginning. Perhaps, you could dress more like a girl, unless you are gay or something that makes you not want to do that. Even so, who died and left those 4 in charge of how people should be? Be yourself! (Does it sound like I was teased?)

Once you get out of school, none of that will matter. I was the same way in school, I always got picked on, I tried to be something I wasn't just so people wouldn't pick on me... and once I graduated and got a job and entered the "real world" I realized that I am more "popular" as myself. Oddly enough, most of my friends are that weird gamer/computer/library/knitter type people, too... you just need to find your niche. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in your school... but that's okay. School is for learning, nobody says you have to socialize there ;)

And if they give you crap, just roll your eyes and walk away. Or walk away and then roll your eyes. But don't give them the satisfaction of knowing they bug you. I know it's hard to ignore but you gotta be you!

In the meantime, continue to be your normal nerdy self and confide in your internet friends... someday when you are able to travel, they can be your real friends!

Don't ever change for someone. I promise you will find your way in life, you have so much more to go through. Just be strong and stand your ground, but also be humble towards everyone. You'll find that with the right attitude, you'll have many more friends than those girls will ever have.

Keep up the good work! It shows you are a strong woman and this is an admirable trait to possess in life. Don't follow the crowd. Don't conform to the norm. U B U!!!!

NO!!!! dont change who you are because they dont like you. They are entitled to their opinion and you, yours. You know what-- they just are missing out on life not looking at different ways to spend their time.
I like punky music too!!! Its the best. I love to knit to it... it makes it less... knitty. :) TRUST ME, YOU ARE FINE!!!! coming from another geek : normal.
Dress is NOT an expression of who you are but simply what happens to be in your closet. Sure, when you buy stuff you pick what you like---
but you like what you like...
and if you're smart, they wont change that.

NEVER CHANGE who you are. Those girls will compromise their standards to "fit the mold", but in the long run YOU being YOURSELF is the best result.
Being computer smart will get you a great job when you older. Cute/sexy girls now will just be single mom's when they are 19..
