My vacant lot next door is always full of weeds. i have a friend in the tree business and he takes a truck full of chippings to the dump every week. If I had the chippings dumped in my lot would it be a good mulch to keep the weeds down?

yea, yes, yes, free mulch is great. Now I wouldn't recommend it on plants until it has aged but you could leave a pile someplace and turn it and after a year or two when it turns dark and looks rich you could use it on your other landscaping needs. Free organic mulch is great! It's just that fresh, breaking down green mulch can take nutrients out of your good landscaping, so it needs to age. So, it's perfect for that weed field and you can use it later for your yard. Also, fresh cut like that can carry insects that could hurt your landscaping around your house but would not do a thing to the field but help break down the material for you. Lucky you!

Well kinda tree shavings are good filler for soil and some are decorative, like cedar is good for insects. but beware that they tend to hold water and can sour and also breed mosquito's in the spring and fall, if it was me i would not spread on a vacant lot without cultivating them under, weed control is not possible because they will penetrate thru the chips, good luck
