Greed. Hypocrisy, sense that the "white man" was better......not looking at Wikipedia here..
Ignorance.
Back in the "old days" Indian tribes were already fighting among each other. When the Brits and the French came , they took advantage and got some tribes as allies only to "forget" them later, for lack of a better word.........
By the way there are still some left.....in reserves ! But their conditions are appaling and.......well.....there are two sides of every story anyway nowadays..

we didnt we just stole their land and forced them to live on reservations where eventually they succomb to the bad living conditions and died.....
