Nobody is evil-evil is an imagined concept.
Now, some slave owners were uncivil and monstrous to their slaves, but there were probably quite a few kind-hearted slave owners. I can't imagine slave owners being any different then store managers/company executives of today. A businessman is a businessman.

Here's a catch-22 to the evil slave owners. George Washington inherited slaves from his brother and received more when he married Martha. He vowed to not break up the slave families so he didn't sell them as they were basically all one family. He wanted to free them as he felt slavery was wrong and it was costing more for upkeep on them versus the income generated through their work. He was losing money by owning slaves. The catch was that if he freed them they would have no where to go, no money, and no other way to take care of themselves. So he had to go on taking care of them as his own finances dwindled by that fact. How evil was he by his actions?

People usually call slaveowners evil becuase of one factor, When should anyone be able to own a human being. Also many of them treated their "slaves" worse than human. For example in the 18th or 19th century, in a census slaves would count as less than 1 human. I believe they were counted as being 2/3.

They beat the slaves. Who thought that they were coming to a freeland. Of course some could argue, that they got a free boat ride, then that means that they need to pay for their debt by working.

That is what is was all about at first, then it got out of hand. Beatings, murders, rape. Pretty much everything bad in the dictionary happend to them. If you would like a good movie to watch which portrays the end of slavery and the effect it had on them watch "GLORY" it is awesome. Has lots of well known actors too. Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, and Matthew Broderick.

Well, i hate to be non pc, but you cant class all slave owners as evil. Well, i guess if you wanted to be pc, you could just say they were, but it wouldnt be true. They were a product of their times, no worse than many other men who condoned slavery, they were just rich enough to afford them.

Condoning & encouraging slave trades by buying slaves.

Not all slave owners mistreat their slaves but there were those who sexually & physically abused their slaves.

slaveowners are ferfered to as evil because they treated slaves like they weren't even people. they thought of them as animals that did work for them. which is wrong.
