A few minutes ago I pop in San Andreas. Its says it can not recognize it because it may be dirty, scratch, or possibly not an xbox game. But the problem is neither is true Its completely clean just purchased it a month ago it practically lives in the xbox. Yesterday it said the same thing but I just restarted it and it worked. Today I did the same thing its not doing anything. I put pratically every game I own in it and it will not recognize any of it. It wont even give me an error message anymore it just goes straight to the menu. What can I do to get this crappy piece of **** to work without spending half of the money I make part time at this crappy college job?

I have two xbox's. Both do or have done the exact same thing. After trying everything to get the drive to read the disk, I mean everything, I eventually had to replace the whole DVD drive. It seems when MS built the Xbox they used three different manufactuers of DVD drives. Phillips, Samsung, and Thompson. The Thompson and Phillips drives are crap. Both of these drives have a tendency to crash, a lot. You start getting the "cannot read disk" error. There is nothing you can do to fix the drive you have, short of replaceing the laser lens. But the new lens wont last either. The best thing you can do is buy a Samsung drive off Ebay. I bought one and it was very easy to install. It cost roughly $65.00 usd. I know a lot of people on here dont click links, but if you want info on this error, this is the best site I have found for it.(link below)
It not only tells you about the error, but it will also give you specific directions on how to replace your drive. They use easy to understand intructions and photos so you can see what you are doing as you replace it. I believe they also sell the Samsung drives at this site as well.
I hope this helps. Goood Luck.

The disk moght have nothing wrong with it. The problem might be the xbox itself. First, chech if theirs dust on the cd tray. Try it again. If it still doesn't work use this idea. Put toothpaste on your CD. I'm not joking. IT doesn't ruin it or anything Just spread the toothpaste over the CD(the back not the front!) and wash it away with semi warm water.( If you don't take my advice you're a wimp!) If all these options don't work then take it to a repair shop. (Hope you have a warranty!)

try getting a dvd cleaner disk, more than likely the lens, which gets dirty easily, has some dust on it.

also, if that don't work, take it back to the store you bought it from or call the xbox manufacture.

hope this helps

You probably need to clean the "laser eye" of the machine. You can purchase these Cleaning discs practically any where now. Good luck.
