So this is the first real weekend at college. I go to university an hour drive from home. I tried telling myself to just rough it out here, but I had a bad night last night and thinking of driving back home for the weekend. I know there's plenty of other kids doing it too, but am I loser for wanting to do this? I don't want it to become habit, but I really just want some face time with my friends after this first week.

So I'm just looking for advice? What would you guys do in this situation?

No.

Homesickness is a common feeling that most college students experience at some point if they're living away from home. Some students feel more homesick than others, of course. And everyone misses different things.

Most students feel more homesick at the beginning of their college careers. For many people, starting college is the first step toward a life on their own. But homesickness can happen at any time.

If you're a first-year student, you also may miss your life as a high school senior. Just a few months ago, you were at the top of the pecking order. Now you're starting over again in a new place where you may not know anyone and you're no longer in charge. On top of that, the first semester of college is a much longer separation from parents and friends than many people are used to. You may not be returning home for a while - especially if your school is a significant distance from home - and the idea can take some getting used to.

No I wouldn't think you were a loser if you chose to go home for the weekend. College can be a very confusing time and after having had a rough night a weekend with people and friends might just give you the lift you need to survive.

You are not a loser, but I would recommend not going home your first weekend. You need to ween yourself from your parents home. Take if from me, I attended a college 4 hours from home and went home every two weekends my first semester, mainly for some good ole home cookin, but after that I almost never went home.

If you do decide to go, please force yourself to stay at least 2 more weekends at college the following two weekends. This is for your own good. College is more than just an education. It rounds you into an adult, helps you ready yourself for the "real" world after college.

I graduated in Dec. 2005 and moved to a city 7 hours from where I grew up. I love it. I work hard and enjoy every second of it.

No matter how far or close you are too home you will always be homesick in the beginning. My advice is to go home. As a college graduate who went to school six hours from home I saw go see the family and friends you love and are comfortable with. I wish I had been able to. Eventually the urges to go home on the weekend will dwindle.

you are NOT a loser for wanting to go back home, if its your first time away from your rents for this long and being that far away from them, then go back and see them, no ones going to make fun of you or anything! remember : there are plenty of other people that live at home with their parents and go back every night, going back over the weekend is NOTHING. you could just have a feeling of homesickness since this was your first week. good luck!

You're not a total loser, but I would stay. I couldn't wait to get to college and meet new people and be on my own. One bad night might make you long for the familiar, but tonight or tomorrow you could meet a special person who will make you happy you stayed. You can always go home, as you're so close, but try to stay and have some fun! Good luck!

No, I do not see anything wrong with that, and if u thought I was a looser and went home every weekend, then think again; for a period of two years, I studied about a 1000miles from home (lived in North east of algeria and studied in north west), because budget was tight I had to sit it for periods of 3 months without visiting home.

Where in the world are you that this is your 1st week? Do your thing man, whatever you want. THat's what colled is all about. But it's also a great time to get to know some new people. Maybe your friends won't quite understand where you're coming from.

no! you have four more years to get to know everyone. You have just been through a major life change and looking for stability and continuity..it's normal. Go home. College isn't going anywhere. Plus you will have stuff to talk about with your new friends when you get back.
