There are some questions that have easy answers, such as "how do you get rust stains out of your bathtub". Those questions require an answer from someone who has the knowledge to answer correctly.

There are some questions such as, "How do I get over the loss of a friend?" that don't have a simple, easy, answer and may not have any answer at all. Still, when someone has posted that kind of question on here they're looking for some kind of feedback from someone; and a quick answer like, "Eat more chocolate" or "Trust God" is probably not what they're looking for.

All anyone can do on questions like this is to offer what they've learned or what their views are and hope there is some shred of insight to be gained from the answer. Maybe even that doesn't always matter, though. Sometimes it may help someone just to know that someone saw their question, gave it serious thought, and made the effort to give them a caring answer that is more personal than what they may find in an encyclopedia and that tells someone who is struggling with something that someone cared enough to try to think up a thoughtful answer.

I tend to be guilty of the long answers, but then maybe that's because I try to find the questions that I think I may be willing to give more thought to than some other people may be. Then in order to take a break from all the thinking I look for some questions on the lighter side. I've never viewed anything I write as advice. I see it as solicited ideas/suggestions from a person who is trying to think up something helpful. As you can tell by looking at some of the questions on here, that's the only way they can be answered unless someone just wants to whip off a wisecrack and move on.

Sometimes it's easier to relate to people you don't know or can't see. Just take a look at all the freaks who get on here. If a few words of kindness might help someone, I am grateful for the opportunity.
