The pilot light is on, I checked the breaker and it's on, and I changed the fuse. Help! It's getting colder. I can't call a repair man because I rent and my landlord isn't home.

first make sure the door is on properly .second,on your thermostat.see if there is a switch for fan .turn to manual on if fan comes on then then you have control voltage.third.turn off the switch on the side of the furnace go to your thermostat jump the red wire and the white wire together turn switch back on .if the furnace lites then you have to replace the thermostat.if it doesent then you have either a bad gas valve or a electrical problem.of witch i am not comfortable going into detail on line

Is the door to the blower housing on properly? Lots of times the door doesn't get put on right after a filter change...
Make sure the knob on the gas valve is set to ON not PILOT...
As for the earlier reply about jumpering the thermostat, if you have air conditioning and you jumper the wrong wires, you'll burn up the transformer! If you want to test the stat, jumper the R and W terminals.
If those don't do it, call a pro. Too many ways to get injured or start a fire!

Your thermostat may not be sending the signal to start.
Try and twiddle with that!
There are 2 wires that supply a tiny voltage to the thermostat, which the thermostat is supposed to short out (to start the furnace). Shorting the 2 wires can also be done manually, possibly with a piece of aluminum foil.
Just remember to remove the foil afterward, otherwise the furnace will just keep on going.

Until you get the repairman out, you've got an emergency. Turn on the oven and open its door. Surface burners will provide you some emergency heat, too. Take a high wattage hairdryer into your bedroom for additional heat, but don't lay it on a flamable surface! That should get you through the night.

It sure sounds like a thermostat problem, but if you need the heat and don't have the skill you will have to pay the $65 to get it looked at. You should be paid back. What does your lease say about these kinds of things?

Don't mess around with a gas furnace. It might just explode on you. Ours did and filled out basement with smoke. Scary!!! I agree it may be your thermostat. Turn it way down and then come back up with it slowly. We have had to do this before to get ours to turn on. Also make sure it is set on heat if you have central air.
