Once you have a good bed of coals built up , put in good sized logs and turn the damper down low. It will burn slow but will keep coals until morning when you can add whatever you need to keep it going. You will learn with practice and you will save a lot of money too. If you leave the dampers open the wood will burn fast and hot and won't last till morning. Good Luck!
