Yes, after market trading occurs as the name suggests after market. Some (not all) securities allow their stocks to be traded "after market".

After market though is a misnomer since "after market" actually refers to the the trading period outside the normal 930-400 ET trading hours, both BEFORE and AFTER the normal hours of the market.

Several brokerages handle both types of trades. AND a trade you submit at 3:59 that does not fill, will not automatically go to after market trading. You'd have to submit that trade separately.
