steve young was definitely the most athletic of the two. steve had the stronger arm. steve was faster. steve had better accuracy...those were regular season traits. if it was playoff time, joe was more athletic, stronger arm, and faster...steve just fumbled a lot.

young would be drafted higher if they were both entering the draft. joe would find a way to win the superbowl.

the superbowl is the most important game in sports. jim kelly and dan marino were excellent qb's, but joe montana was better because he never...ever....ever choked.

i'm not a 49ers fan, however, i did stay at a holiday inn express last night!

Steve Young was good, but he was not better than Joe Montana. The advantage Steve had, was the fact thet he could take the hits when he had to run the ball; most QB's ran out of bounds, but Steve Young didn't do that.

Joe Montana was better, because he took his team to the Superbowl more than 1 time

No, both were great Quarterbacks for Niners however Steve learned from Joe however the only reason I think Steve was just a bit better than Joe is for the fact that Steve was more mobile....

I thought Steve Young was just as good as Joe Montana, he just didn't play on the field long enough in his prime. Also, the system made these two great also.

I thought Steve Young was a better quarterback as well, primarily because his athleticism added a whole new dimension to the offense. Not only could he scramble for positive yards, but he could also move into better positions to find open receivers, as evidenced by the fact that his passer rating is the highest in NFL history. It's too bad he didn't have the durability to play longer.

There is no possible way to compare the two of them...Montana was a great "prototype" quarteback....He could throw accuratly and lead a team in crunch time...Steve young was a different quaterback all together...he could run, he also did not have the penchant for the comeback that Montana did.

Joe was the top quarterback for the 49ers. Steve did a fine job
of filling Joe's shoes once he left. Wish that team would get it together now. Every year they lose. Bummer!
