I don't give a sh*t about the singers. They make a lot of money anyway, more than they need, more than they deserve, so I don't feel sorry for them. They find other ways to make money anyway, like merchandise, movies, commercials, t-shirts...
I would prefer to buy the music, because it is simpler and you get the whole cover, artwork and pictures included. You don't need to waste time completing albums from downloads or renaming files or burning them out.
But the CD's are too expensive! It's funny how the record companies think. To raise prices will only lead to more downloaders, they lose money and they make more criminals out of normal people with the copyright sh*t.
Another thing is the availability. A lot of music that I like can not be found here. If I like Bulgarian or Russian music, do you think I would find it here in the shops? No. Online? Might. Then there is the extra tax fee if you get something shipped from other countries. At least in my country.
I believe it is time for the stupid music industry to realize they need to lower the prices on CD's and make them more available. Like online shops too, which would be much cheaper.
If it was cheaper more people would buy instead of download.
I only buy CD's from bands and artists that I REALLY like and want in my collection. It's hard for me to buy when I have such a wide taste.
Not to mention that if it hadn't been for downloading, I would NEVER have gotten to know half of the artists/bands I know of now. It is basically self-promoting. They get a new fan from a distand part of the world.
If it was real cheap I'd buy, but still download the stuff I don't know about to see if it is anything to like.

To the person who said they're not buying a whole CD just to get one song, what's wrong with going to Apple's iTunes and buying the one song for 99 cents? Then you won't burn in Hell forever and ever for being a F*cking thief! Maybe someday you will be the victim of crime and begin to understand why it's totally wrong.

It's safer to play legal. I think the artists deserve to get paid well, I am not so sure about the greedy record companies though. I recall hearing the same arguments from recording companies about recordable video tapes and audio cassettes.
