As both a parent and and second teacher I would like to see corporal punishment back in the schools.

When I went to school (which is not exactly ancient history) the teachers still paddled--it was a private school. I also teach in a private (Catholic) school but in my state they do not allow even private schools to spank.

I was paddled three times in school. Though that may sound like a lot--I was kind of a crazy kid. But it did make a big impression on me. I know for a fact that many times my behavior was changed because the possibility of a paddling crossed my mind at times.

At school these days there are limited punishments. And there do need to be real punishments sometimes. My biggest thing is to call the parents. But I know often that does not really result in all that much. I don't really like long drawn out things like detentions. Besides there needs to be an ultimate discipline tool. Spanking makes a huge impression--and just knowing that it is a possible consequence does have an impact on kids--even if not used very often.

I am aware of the problems some people have mentioned of leaving it just to individual teachers to decide to paddle. I think it is best that it be done by the teacher who made the decision--however it should be approved by an impartial person--such as the principal or vice-principal. And it should always be witnessed by someone for both the teacher and the child's protection. Of course, it should also be administered in private.

I don't expect this to happen anytime soon. Perhaps never. But there is always the possibility that the thinking on this subject may swing back

i'm a 2d grade instructor and mom. for many of the time I have taught it change into in colleges the position spanking change into prohibited. yet, at the moment I have taught in a college the position the paddle continues to be a doable option. i imagine it really is tremendous-- Spanking in college should be not often used--even if it really is powerful to have an perfect thermonuclear punishment that anybody knows is a danger. each and every each and every now and then there's a desire for something more beneficial than detention, lacking recess, etc. And suspension will no longer be an spectacular punishment. the most i ought to earlier do change into call the moms and dads--and many of the time that change into no huge possibility. As a toddler I went to colleges that did paddle. i understand for a reality there have been circumstances even as the seen a plausible spanking did reason me to pause and desirable my habit. Like I say it will be uncommon. i imagine all paddlings should be licensed through the powerful or someone in authority--to dodge abuse. they should be in deepest and there should be a witness, for both the youngster and the instructor's safe practices.

I have mixed feelings about that. When I was in third grade, there were two boys who got caught playing with matches in a parochial school I attended and they both got sent to the principal's office and the nun made them both bend over her knee and spanked them with her bare hand. This was in the 80's. I think spanking should only be used as a last resort prior to expulsion or suspension and given as an option. I also think there should be a release signed by the parents that in the event their child misbehaves after detention, time-outs, suspended privileges in school, that corporal punishment could be implemented.
