This is a depressing question, especially by the lack of response its had.

I would say that most politicians, at least in the UK, are honest. Especially those outside the two major parties. I mean, one doesn't join the Liberal Democrats, the Greens or the SNP out of a blind lust for power! Most of the time its done because one identifies with the values and policies of a party and wishes to help it succeed. For most members it stops with paying for a subscription, but for some the next stage is leaflet delivering and then a post on the local branch. At the lower levels, political activity is ALL give and no take.

There is an obvious cynicism to your question. Why don't you sit down, have a think about what you believe in and then have a look at the political parties and go along to the one that most closely fits your views and get involved. You will be amazed at how much time people are willing to give to something they believe in.

In answer to your question I could list off a whole bunch of MPs I have met but I'm not going to. I want to be impartial with this question.
