Help! We recently repaired our toilet (or so we thought) and now, since my daughter has been using it..it has detached from the floor and is basically sitting there without being bolted to that thing that mounts it to the floor. I noticed that the mount is broken....what do we do? Is this something we can repair ourselves or is a plumber required?! HELP! I dont need anymore bills so any assistance would be appreciated.

Oops...forgot to say it isnt the wax seal Im taking about its the plastic or sometimes metal piece attached to the floor where you mount the bolts into....I hope that helps more.

you can use a spanner flange or two depending on if both sides of your flange are broken...you will need to make sure you screw the spanner(s) down into the concrete or subfloor depending on house type...if concrete your gonna need a hammer drill and some tapcons.....a spanner by the way is a small section of metal that will replace where the plastic/metal has broken or rusted out......I wouldn't recomend trying to replace the whole flange if you don't have to but if you decide to I would seek outside help as they can sometimes be tricky if you've never done it before..

My guess, and that's just what it is, a guess..........is that the wax ring leaked for some time and a portion of your subfloor is rotten. Best to remove the toilet completely and do a THOROUGH inspection. With the toilet removed, you'll be better able to make an assessment of your situation. It's got to come out anyway. Once the toilet is out, place an old towel in the drain pipe to keep sewer gases out of the house!

You may not need a plumber but you might not want to try it yourself. Do you know any handy men..it's not the biggest job in the world and it shouldn't cost that much if it's someone you know and pay for any parts. You will need a wax seal for sure, I wouldn't let anyone do it without replacing that, they are cheap. Just ask around maybe a neighbor or someone you know might do it for you. good luck!

Unfortunatly the flange is probably glued in place , you will have to take the toilet up and see if you can remove it , if not then a plumber may be required , if you can remove it the part is not hard to replace and is relatively inexpensive .

The mounting ring is replaceable. Go to Lowes or Home Depot. Buy a new mounting ring and wax ring. Then get a plumbing selfhelp book. You should be able to handle it.
