Because you can poopwhen you are pushing and it may make the drugs work as well and also pregnant women are at risk of aspirating if they throw up. I don't know why on the last one. I hadn't eaten anything for awhile before I went into labor with my first and by the time it was all over, I was ravenous!!!!! I thought I'd beat the system with my second, so when my labor started, I stayed at home for awhile and had a huge breakfast. That'll show 'em!! Until I got there and the contractions started and they made me puke!! So, the body will do it itself anyway!!!

A woman can eat during contractions if she likes. Most women do not want to eat later in labour but if they are hungry it is just suggested that they eat small easy to digest snacks. The reason is because the blood that normally goes to the stomach for digestion is going to the uterus. The digestion slows down.
It is a myth that women cannot eat in labour just as it was a myth that they cannot drink in labour. Hydration and nutrition are essential. Like I said, small portions of easy to digest foods are fine. The only time to restrict is if a woman appears that she is headed for an emergency c-section that would require a general anesthetic. Most c's are done with an epi or spinal so there is no reason.
Also, do not worry about pooping during pushing. We all have waste in our systems and even if you don't eat, most women still poop. It's nothing to be ashamed of and if you do, they quickly whisk it away.

Because modern obstetrics is all about controling what a woman does,im sorry but its called labor for a reason...its hard work so if a woman feels like eating than she should be allowed.Anyone feel like running a 18 hour marathon on the apple you had before you went to bed?

basically it has nothing to do directly with the labor itself..we arent allowed to eat once we go into labor because of the possible need for the doctor to have to put us out in the case an emergency...its just like when you go in for surgery and they dont let you eat after midnight the night before..you could vomit up the food, during surgery, and choke on it.

I don't think I could think about food and have a contraction at the same time.

becuase she may need a c- section which is surgery and its to keep down the risk of a bm during delivery and the risk of vomiting down

Because she may have anaethesia and she could vomit the food, aspirate it into her lungs, get pneumonia and die.
